Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri was linked with whole host
of top European clubs this summer including Chelsea, Manchester City, Napoli
and Sevilla. Instead, the Ivorian has chosen to move to newly-promoted Fulham.
The club announced on their official website that the 26 year-old had signed on
a four-year deal, subject to obtaining a work permit.
Fulham have also completed the signing of Maxime Le
Marchand, also from Nice. According to Sky
Sports, the combined deal for Seri and the French left-back will cost
Fulham around £30 million.
Fulham are back in the Premier League after four years away
in the Championship. They missed out on automatic promotion after a final day
3-1 defeat by Birmingham City, but came back to beat Derby County and Aston
Villa in the playoffs to make it back to the top-flight. Manager Slavisa
Jokanovic leads a group of young and exciting players, most notably Ryan
Sessegnon, the left-back cum left-winger who scored an incredible 16 goals in
all competitions last season. At the age of just 18, he became the first player
from outside the top-flight to be nominated for the PFA Young Player of the
Year award.
Having sealed the Seri and Le Marchand deals, Fulham will
now work towards securing Aleksandar Mitrovic on a permanent deal. The striker
joined Craven Cottage on loan from Newcastle United in the second half of last
season, and scored 12 league goals in 17 appearances, becoming a firm fan
favourite in the process. Newcastle may be hesitant to sell/loan to a fellow Premier
League club, as they themselves are in need of a regular goalscoring
striker. It will be interesting to see where the Serbian, who played all three
group matches for his country at the World Cup, ends up next season.
West Ham look to
continue strong window
Manuel Pellegrini has really attracted some top players to
West Ham United so far. The Hammers have already spent close to £50 million so
far in signing defender Issa Diop, winger Andriy Yarmolenko and goalkeeper
Lukasz Fabianski. Also, Jack Wilshere
has signed on a free transfer from Arsenal.
It is now being reported by Sky Sports that a £35 million deal is on the table for Lazio
playmaker Felipe Anderson. The Brazilian is expected in London on Thursday for
his medical, after which personal terms between the club and the player will be
discussed. The 25 year-old could be officially announced as early as next week.
After a season to forget last year where they flirted with
relegation and sacked Slavan Bilic midway through the campaign, West Ham are
keen to make amends this time around. European football and a top 8 finish will
certainly be on the owners’ minds, considering the amount of money that has
been splashed and the talent brought in. They also have a former Premier
League-winning manager in charge.
However, one does feel that they still need to invest in an
out-and-out centre-forward. Yarmolenko can play that role, but the lack of
goals from their strikers was a big problem last season.
